Functional Description — 364 words · 2014 - POD17 - MANUAL.docx, page 1
The POD17 is a multifunction AES audio distribution amplifier. It will accept two AES digital audio signals with sample rate frequencies from 32 to 96 kHz.
The main purpose of the POD17 is to allow audio level adjustment of AES digital audio signals in the digital domain. While many North American facilities have “standardized” AES signals at -20 dBFs, there is still a considerable variation in the level of AES signals that facilities have to contend with on a day by day basis. Typically signal levels vary from -20 dBFs to -12 dBFs. The POD17 provides this control over the level of the AES digital signal via analog rotary potentiometers or with a REMOTE FADER. The REMOTE FADER is provided only with the POD17R.
For sample rate conversion (SRC), an AES audio reference signal is to be connected to the POD17 termination and converts the sample rate of input signal to that of the reference signal. The POD17 is a 1x6 (six output ports for the one input), in either stereo or mono, depending on the status of the STEREO/MONO button. In mono mode, the ability to invert the audio signal is possible with the R/-R button. In stereo mode, this button will invert the audio signal from the RIGHT channel.
Multi-turn potentiometers are located on the front of the POD17 to provide “linear” level control of the audio signal. Recommended for setup purposes.
As with all Ward-Beck 8200 series digital products a convenient signal output is provided on a TRS jack at the front panel DIGITAL MONITOR of POD17. The jack may be used for monitoring the signal using an Audio Bit Buddy™ or routing the signal to another destination.
TALLY SIGNAL DEFINITIONS
GREEN LED1 AUDIO INPUT LOCK - Indicates that the POD17 is locked to an AES/EBU audio signal.
GREEN LED2 SRC - Indicates that the POD17 is locked to an AES/EBU audio reference signal and the resulting output will have the sample rate of the reference signal.
YELLOW LED REMOTE - Indicates that the POD17 is used in conjunction with the REMOTE AUDIO FADER.
RED LED
ERRORS - Indicates that POD17 has lost audio lock or is experiencing a confidence error
